INVERNESS TANG SOO DO

INVERNESS TANG SOO DO

What is Tang Soo Do?

Tang Soo Do is an ancient Korean Martial Art, which translates into the following;

Tang refers to the T'ang Dynasty of China, reflecting the shared cultural background of China & Korea
Soo literally means hand, but implies fist, punch, strike or defence
Do means way of life or art

Therefore "Tang Soo Do" means the traditional Korean martial art which was influenced by the T'ang method of martial art.

Technically, Tang Soo Do is based on the principles of using circular motion to stop or block an attack, followed by strikes to a human's weakest areas (vital points), to achieve a destructive cycle in the opponent’s nervous system disabling their attack.

The reputation for superior kicking techniques and development of the legs is another proud asset of Tang Soo Do.  As a student, you will learn to use your hands and feet in such a manner as to simulate actual combat with an armed or unarmed opponent.  With these skills coupled with the constant research and development of improving techniques, you will learn an effective method of self defence.

Today, The techniques and philosophy are still taught as they were in ancient times, although the system has adjusted to the physical needs of modern life styles.  Most of all, this wonderful art is designed to develop individual character, mental strength and respect for others.

Introduction to Inverness Tang Soo Do

Inverness Tang Soo Do was formed in September 1997, and it's first class was held in the Ross Room of Hilton Community Centre, on Tuesday 2nd September 1997.  Inverness Tang Soo Do has grown from strength to strength over the years, and has always encountered a strong student base with minimal advertising.

Inverness Tang Soo Do encourages family members to get involved in the martial art, whether they are actively participating, or simply helping out at events and supporting others.  The Inverness club has a real "community" feel to it, and new students are warmly welcomed into the group.  Through the Inverness Tang Soo Do club you are able to meet and relate to people from all walks of life with special skills, both physical and interpersonal.  It is truly a joy to be the co-founder and Master Instructor of Inverness Tang Soo Do, especially during this 10th Anniversary Year.  Happy 10th Birthday Inverness Tang Soo Do!!
